• French-designed but British-built, the Renault G290 proved to be a competitive 38-tonne tractor when we tested it in 4 x 2 form late last year. At the time, however, we mentioned that a roof spoiler might make a difference to fuel consumption. That item — not then available — was fitted to the latest 6 X 2 G290 which we have tested; the report in next week's issue shows just how effective the spoiler can be — and what a difference adding a third axle can make to the ride and handling of the vehicle.
