Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rockwood Distribution Services, the eventual winner won over the judges with an "uncluttered" and "unfussy" design Hatton liked the way that the side bars and the bumpers of the truck had been picked out in yellow with such precision, and Bottomley thought the overall design was "lovely".

The Burton Group was another highlight of Class Two this year. The panel was impressed by the thoughtful way Burton had incorporated its family of different trading names into a single corporateidentity livery.

Builders merchant Davilliam was "a butch design for a butch job", said Hatton. Strong yellow keytones and strong lettering put the company's message over well, said the panel.

Marks and Spencer's home-delivery livery was "simple but boring". "M and S really should have done something better than that," said Morris. Next's livery was "an opportunity missed", said the judges, and was as clear an example of how not to do it as Burton's was of how to do it.

The North East Co-op's fresh-food design was liked, but ultimately criticised for its pale colours and susceptibility to dirt. "What is it going to look like after three months on the road?" Bottomley wondered.

Sunpat peanut butter was a classic example of a good trailer design ruined by an unsympathetic cab livery. The two liveries simply did not match and "a wonderful trailer livery has been killed

stone dead by a dreadful Rowntree cab design", said Hatton.

One category of vehicle where the judges felt operators had missed opportunities was that of furniture removals vans. In general, far too much information was crammed onto these potentially superb boxes. Where an operator had avoided this flaw, the colours chosen tended to be rather ugly — such as green and black.
