Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EURO LAUNCH FOR DATA SCHEME • An electronic data transmission scheme which, it is claimed, cuts transport costs by 3%-4%, has been launched in Europe with backing from the EEC.

The aim is to cut out costly and time-consuming paperwork and pnone-calls in invoicing, quoting for business, availability and other operations. The data interchange, which uses a standardised language, has already been developed under a scientific and technical research project.

Now it is being put into practice with about 80 transport firms, ports, railways, airlines and major firms like Siemens and Fiat taking part. They are based in ten European countries — but Britain is not among them. It is hoped that a world-wide standardised system will eventually be based on the results of the trials.
