• TDG has acquired William Spiers, the £2m-turnover automotive parts haulier based at Melksham, Wilts, for an undisclosed sum.

The deal includes a 2.2-acre depot, 20 trucks and 25 trailers. All 20 of William Spiers' drivers have also transferred.

TDG will take over William Spiers' main contract with Cooper Avon Tyres, which will be managed by the Automotive Division of TDG Logistics. William Spiers will continue to be involved with the company. Gary Ferguson, operations director of TDG Logistics' automotive division, says: "This acquisition fits perfectly with our strategy to continue growing within the automotive sector."

William Spiers says: "The company had to grow very quickly or take on board someone with the relevant expertise. This acquisition gives us the resources to move forward."
