PROPRIETOR of the Whittle Coach and Travel Group, Ron Whittle has been elected president of the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport for 1980-1981. Mr Whittles connection with trade association work goes back to 1966 when he joined West Midlands Area Committee of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association of which he became chairman in 1968. In 1974 PVOA merged with other bus and coach operators' associations to form the present-day CPT.

TIP Trailer Rental has name Pat Berridge as operations director and Jim Gallagher as fulltime company secretary. Mr Berridge was previously the company's technical director, having joined TIP as chief engineer in 1973, and in his new role he will have responsibility for technical aspects of business and operations within the company. Mr Gallagher has already been carrying out company secretary functions in addition to his responsibilities as operations manager, Alec Silverleaf (left) has retired from the Transport and Road Research Laboratory where he has been a director since 1971. Mr Silverleaf joined the National Physical Laboratory at Teddington and became superintendent of the laboratory's ship division in 1962. In 1966 he became deputy director of the laboratory, responsible for the engineering sciences group, and in 1971 he became director of the then Road Research Laboratory which was renamed TRRL in 1972.
