Stand No. 4, Row C.

The associate companies of Agricultural and General Engineers, Ltd.' will exhibit their products' on one stand. Richard Garrett. and Sons Ltd., will show a 5 too non-superheated steam wagon on rubber tyres fitted ;hall band and mechanically operated tipping body, with hinged sides and tailboard-, it is lined throughout with sheet iron.. They will also exhibit a adj ton electric vehicle, which will be fitted with a Wood horizontal screw end-tipping. body: Chas. Three exbibits will comprise the. contribution of Barford and Perkins, Ltd., to the most representativi-,display of A.G.E., these being a type J road Teller, a three-wheeled water ballast road roller, and an example of the Thackra,yBarford road scarifier. The type .1" roller, which weighs about 10 tons empty and 12 tons full, is fitted with a fourcylinder subsidy Dorman.engine which develops so-as b.h.p.^ when .running on paraffin. The second roller weighs approximately the same as the otter machine, and both the back and front rollers, are iarranged to hold water ballast. A•tank with a capacity of 115 gallons is fitted, which can)be used for sprinkling the front and back rollers. This machine is fitted with a four-cylinder Dorman engine of 35-40 h.p. It uses petrel as fuel. The scarifier is drawn by a, wire rope, and the attachment to the roller is by a patent spring hook, which relieves the frame of the roller of strains which' are inevitable when it is built into the frame of 6°1-atter. The scarifier can be supplied with either two or four tines.

The manufactures. of Avelms and Porter, Ltd., will be represented by a quick-reverse tandem-type steam roller for tax-macadam and bituminous car CIS peting; a steam road roller of 10 tons nominal weight when empty; a steam tractor mounted. on rubber-tyred road wheats to haul 10-12 tons, and a Price patent resilient scarifier, in which the vibration and strains of scarifying are neutralized by means of spring and rubber cushions.

Allied Machinery Co., Ltd.

Stands Nos. 7-15, Row G.

This company, who are agents for a number of American machines and devices, will be showing a whole range of goods suitable for municipal uses. The two machines that will probably interest our readers meet are the Austin reversible road grader, and the Austin motor road roller, Teeth of which machines are made by the Austin Manufacturing Co., of Chicago. The grader for earth road work possesses many distinctive features, such as a• reversible blade, which can be used either as a leveller or clod pulverizer. The road roller is of sound construction, and its large, single-cylinder, slowrunning engine makes for smooth running and long service.

Atkinson and CO.

Stand No. 5, Row D, Gitbey Hall.

This company's exhibit will consist of a 5 ton end-tipping steam wagon fitted with hand and mechanically operated tip. ping -gear. It is fitted with the Uniflow engine. Steam valves only are employed for this unit, the steam enters at the end of the cylinder and travels towards the centre, pushing the piston before it; the latter then opens the exhaust port through which the steam escapes. An interesting feature is the arrangement of a valve in the piston. This vehicle is provided with three independent brakes and many other improvements which should not fail to be inspected. The mechanical tipping gear is operated by a separate small steam engine, which can be reversed for raising or lowering the body. It runs at about 900 r.p.m., and can lift the body and bring it back to its original position inabout two minutes. To obviate the complexity of double eccentrics and link motion, hob lew piston valves, without any lap, are used in this unit. The whole of the bevel gearing is enclosed, and the telescopic lifting screws are also protected by a tube clipped to the trunnion nut.

British Electric Vehicles, Ltd.

Stand No. 5, Row E.

Three miniature electric vehicles will be shown on the stand occupied by this Southport company. The first will be an electric locomotive of the company's No. I size, which is designed to run on a metre gauge track and is capable of hauling a load of 10 tons on the level. This locomotive is eminently smitahle for use in works or in metalliferous mines. It is very easy to handle, and one charge of the battery is sufficient to give a useful service of about 20 miles at a fuel cast for electricity of approximately 14(1. per mile.

The second exhibit will be a supergiant electric truck, which is capable of carrying a load of 5,000 lb. This truck i.e specially designed for heavy service, and ease of repair and maintenance have been specially considered in its construction. The battery is of 20 cells I.M.V.5 eizee having a capacity of 161 amp.-hours. It is stung in a well-designed cradle, which is suspended on cantilever springs. The motor which is fitted may be removed as a complete unit without disturbing other details of the truck. Ali

the wheels of this truck are detachable without interfering with the roller bearings.

The third exhibit will he a little giant model truck which has a load capacity of 1,500 lb. Thiele the company's smallest model, and one which has proved most popular since they started to build industrial trucks some five years ago.

Clayton Wagons, Ltd. Stand No. 9, Row B.

The exhibitioe of Clayton Wagons, Ltd., will consist of one of the company's weIl-known overtype steam wagons fitted with an end-tipping 'body, and an example of the Clayton 5 tort electric vehicle which, it will be remembered, madis its first appearance -on the occasion of the Olympia Show. The overtype steamer incorporates all those features generally accepted as standard practice on steam wagons. of overtype design. The engine is of the cornpound -type, and arrangements can be made Ter separating the exhaust from the cylindne, so that extra power may be temporarily obtained. The engines power is transmitted through machine-cut gears to a countershaft carrying the chain pinion, thence the power is transmitted to the rear axle by roller chain. Two

speeds are provided for. The boiler feed pump is operated at reduced speed from the engine shaft: The electric wagon is of the singlemotor type with transmission enclosed in a casing in one with the motor and driving by a pair of roller chains to the rear wheels. On the machine to be exhibited the motor and controller are by the B.T.11. Co. and the storage batteries, which can be readily removed fee inspection, are by the Chloride Co.

Carrosserie Latymer, Ltd.

Stand No. 3, Row A.

As trailer specialists, this company's exhibits aro bound to command the attention of all municipal authorities who employ hauled =its.

They will be showing three complete trailers in all, these being a 4 ton etan

derdtrailer chassis, a 4 ton side-and-endtipping trailer, and a 4 ton Ackerman steering trailer chassis, as well as an allsteel 6 ten front undercarriage, which has been specially constructed and left in polished steel with a view to showing the general construction of the company's all-steel Carrymore trailer.

The first two trailers are constructed entirety of steel, and the cast.-steel Wheels are fitted with phosphor-bronze floating bushes. Feredodined brakes operate on the rear wheels.

Dyson and Co., -LW-.

Stand No 8, Row D.

Several trailers. will be shown on the stand of this Liverpool concern. These will be a four-wheeled trailer losearry a 1 ton chassis ehod with pneumatic tyres, and which is specially constructed for work in conjunction with petrol wagons; a new steel trailer to carry 1. ton, which is fitted with disc wheels .and salid tyres; a 3 ton steel trailer with hind and front steering,: and . a new type of tipping trailer.

Electricars, Ltd.

Stand No, 3, Row B.

Ai pioneers of the electric vehicle in this cokePtry, this company's exhibits ehoidd receive attention. They will be showing .a 50 cwt. model EA electrically operated tipping wagon, a 750 gallon read watering vehicle, anda 30 cwt. electric compensating boom crane truck.

The EA chassis is a model in which the frame is of the built-up type, the side members being constructed of two high tensile steel flitch plates reinforced by American ash filler pieces. • The crazemembers are of selie-deawnesteel tube. The rear wheels are each independently driven through totally :enclosed, continuously lubricated gearing fmni a series,wound motor, which is mounted outside the chassis frame, thus providing the greateet :degree of accessibility should the brush gear eat*. adjustment.

All mama tonwenente are equally acces&dale; the -controller box, foe instance, being mounted outside the frame on the near side immediately behind the front mudguard.

The body of this vehicle, which is construoted of sheet steel, is tipped by an automatic gear, which is put into action by a simple reversing switch. See-soon

as the switch is closed a small electric motor raises the front end of the body by means of a'square-threaded screw and a nut of ample proportions, to which is anchored a series of toggle-jointed levers. This body is made interchangeable with a 750 galloit watering tank by means of a sub-frame. Either body is held in position on the sub-frame lay means of four hooks, which engage in eye bolts, Which screw into the sub-frame and are secured by wing nuts.

Fowler and Co. (Leeds), Ltd.

Stand No. 7, Row D.

Perhaps the most interesting exhibit on the stand of this company will be the Fowler-Woods combined steam road rolling, sweeping, tar-spraying and grouting' apparatus and gritting machine. ' althoegh the Tiger steam.tractor, whichis a typical example 'of -light -road locomotive con traction, -will mot to interest. The former machine, will he particularly interesting to all those concerned with road-making and maintenance, since it enables numerous operations to be carried out by one machine.' The outstanding feature of the Tiger tractor is the patent oil-bath spring gear, in which the revolving mechanism has only one loose ;part.

Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 4, Row B.

Types of vehicles for various municipal uses will be exhibited by this company. The 4 ton, all-steel trailer on a low-loorlinv type chassis is bound to at

tract attention. It is fitted With pressedsteel wheels shod with solid tyres, and the Eagle patent combined side-and-endtipping body, operated by a vertical screw, is fitted.

A mechanically operated, end-tipping body will also be demonstrated, whilst other exhibits to be seen on the stand will include a 500-gallon Warwick sprinkler on an Edison-battery chassis made interchangeable with a tipping body; an end-tipping body with horizontal screwtipping gear on a 15 cwt. Riker chassis; a. Warwick sleeping van fitted with three bunks; a Warwick petrol-paraffin engine for driving concrete mixers, etc. ; and various sizes and types of tipping gears suitable for vehicles ranging from the 1 ton Fords to those of 5 tans capacity, these tipping bodies being particularly suitable for tar macadam, the mete of .S!..! tip being more than 60 degrees.

The dust covers for refuse vans, which incorporate a patent lightning fastener, are a hygienic fitting which should appeal to all municipal authorities.

Fodens, Ltd.

Stand No. S. Row D.

No municipal exhibition would be complete without! a Foden exhibit, and the Sandbach company will be showing a 5 ton steam wagon with and-tipping body, as well as a chain-driven steam tractor.

The steam wagon has an overtype engine and a locomotive-type boiler. The compound engine utilizes steam at a working, pressure af 200 lb. per sq. in. and drives through ordinary-type changespeed gear and single roller chain to the usual typo rear axle. The tipping body which is fitted is hydraulically operated. This vehicle is weti suited to the general requirements of local authorities, particularly as it can also ho fitted with a water tank and sprayer for street watering, gully flushing, etc.

The chain-driven steam tractor is capable of hauling net loads of 8 to 10 tons at 6 m.p.h. It has large diameter, rubber tyred wheels, exceptionally large water tank and fuel space and winding drum with 50 yards of steel cable.

Foster and Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 5, Row H.

Established in 1856, this company have had considerable experience in the manufacture of heavy road vehicles, and a standard 5 ton steam wagon incorporating much of the experience gained in the construction of these types of machines will he staged. The boiler of this wagon is of the loco noulti-tubular type, the firebox being of the Belpaire type. The working pressure of the bailer is 200 lb. per square inch. The diametbrs of the cylinders of the compound engine are 4 ins. and 6,t ins., and the .stroke 7 ins. The engine may be converted to run either as a compound or as a double high-pressure unit. Slide valves are operated by motion of the Stephenson link-type. The front wheels are fitted with rubber tyres of 850 • mm. by 160 mm., twin tyres being fitted at the rear of 1050 mm. by 160 mm. dimensions. The wagon to be shown will be fitted with a steel end-tipping body, the angle of tip being 40 degrees. The tipping gear, which as operated by the engine, is of the friction-driven type.

General Vehicle Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 6, Row B, Gilbey Hall.

The electric vehicles produced by this company will be represented by four models, these ranging in capacity from 2 tons to 5 tons.

The 2 ton model will be fitted with a patent street-watering tank which is in. terchangealole with a Constable end-tipping body. The tank is one of 500 gallons capacity, and possesses several interesting features. Two N. ton vehicles will be shown, (me being fitted with the Craymer unloader and the other with a brewer's lorry body. The Cravrner unloader is an electrically operated' device which can discharge a full load in 60 seconds, one of its principal features being the low-loading height. The 1 ton chassis to be shown will be fitted with a three-way, steel • tipping body, which is particularly sititable for carrying coal, ashes, slack and similar loose material. The tipping is electrically operated and controlled from the driver's cab.

Lacre 'Motor Car Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 1, Row B.

This company have had considerable experience in the manufacture of machines suitable for municipal employment and, as might be •expected, their range of exhibits will, be moat compreheneive.

There will be five vehicles shown in all, these being two L-type road sweepers, a 2 ton tipping wagon, a gully cleanser, and water cart fitted with spraying gear. The sweeper is of the three-wheeled type, in winch the brush is mounted on a semi-circular brush guard carried on detachable pivots attached to the rear end of the frame. The weight of the brush is taken by double counter weights so arranged that their position can be altered from the driver's seat, enabling the pressure of the brush on the road to be varied. The drive for the brush is taken direct from the gearbox by a totally enclosed gear via a universally jointed shaft, to a chain-drive attached to the side of the brush case.

We have had occasion to describe the new gravity type tipping gear, which will be shown on the 2 ton chassis. The mechanism is very simple, and consists of two toothed racks situated over, and parallel with, each side of the chassis frame, the rear ends of which are attached to a cross-shaft secured to the underside of the body. On each side of this cross-shaft is a roller functioning on a ramp attached to each side of the cliassie frame. At the rear of the cab two cross-shafts are fitted to the frame, one of which is operated by a hand crank, which engages -by means of a toothed pinion with the Other shaft which, in turn operates the racks. The " closed circuit'' gully cleanser is an interesting vehicle in which the tank is conical in form. The tank has a capacity of 400 gallons and is mounted on the chassis at a suitable angle-which enables the contents to be readily evacuated. The positive action pump, capable of pumping air or water, is attached to the main frame at the near side.

The water-cart incorporates a 30 lep. engine. This chassis can be used for three purposes, these being as an ordinary transport vehicle, a tipping body, and a road watering outfit.

Laffly (England) Co.

Stands Nos. 1 and 2, Row B, Gilbey Hall.

This company have had considerable experience in the manufacture of various classes of municipal equipment, and four exhibits of direct interest to local authorities will be shown, these being a 3 ton dust-refuse-collecting van, a 7 ton petrol roller, a watering wagon, which can also be used as a fire-engine, and a road-sweeping machine.

A Laffly-Schneider saloon bus of the type which toured Great Britain will also be shown, although this can hardly be classified as a municipal vehicle, as well as two individual components showing engine and gearbox construction.

W. and F. Archer,

Stand No. 3, Row D.

One of the latest model Lally sweeping machines will be shown on this company's stand_ The Laffly has a fourcylinder monobloc engine, with forcedfeed lubrication and thermo-syphon water circulation: The gearbox is of the ordinary sliding-gear typo and gives three speeds forward and a reverse, with automatic throw in and out of the brushoperating device. The geared 'pump supplies water under pressure from the tank to the spraying column and evenly waters the roadway along the entire length of the brush, which is xotetPd by means of bevel gearing and chain through a linked shaft driven from the gearbox. Its pressure on the roadway is easily adjustable by modifying the tension of the balance springs or suspension springs.

Millars' Timber and Trading Co.

Stand No. 7, Row C.

A complete range of labour-saving machinery for public works contractors, builders, and municipal authorities will be shown by this company. The tructractor, a high-speed threewheeled truck, with either 'side or end dump hopper, Will interest many of our readers. It is fitted with a 25 h.p. fourcylinder engine. Another interesting exnibit will be a 5 ton Springfield tandem steam roller, which has been specially designed for the emooth rolling of plastic pavements. Its equipment includes a vertical boiler and a smooth-running horizontal engine, geared to the rear roller ; both hand and steam steering are provided. Other exhibits include a revolving steam shovel, concrete mixers, wagon loaders, air compressors, petrol-drieren pumps, semi-Diesel engines, etc.

Mann's Steam Wagon Co.

Stand No. 4, Row A.

The 5 ton steam wagon which will be exhibited by this company is standard. in every respect. The engine is a compound; the working pressure being 200 lb. per square inch. The final drive is by a single roller chain, and there are two sets of brakes fitted, one operating on the drum of the differential gear, and the other on drums in the rear wheels. The Mann steam wagon is in a class of its own on account of the arrangement of side-firing for the boiler. The machine to be exhibited will be fitted with a tipping gear operated by the power of the engine. The tipping operation is effected through a clutch on the second motion shaft, and this arrangement has the advantage that it can be thrown out of gear when the engine is not under steam, and the body tipped by hand in the ordinary way. The vehicle will be shod with rubber tyres.

Marshall, Sons and Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 4, Row B, Gilbey Hall.

Three exhibits will be shown on the stand of Marshall, Sons and Go., Ltd., of' Gainshorough, although the two which are most likely to interest municipal, authorities are the 10 ton single-cylinder steam road roller and the compound steam tractor.

The nominal empty weight of the road roller is 10 tons, and the important features embodied in its construction are as follow :—Speed changing is effected by one clutch and lever; the first countershaft carrying, the sliding pinions is square, and keys and feathers are thus dispensed with; the cylinder lubrication is effected by a mechanically driven, oil pump. The engine is mounted on a locomotive-type boiler suitable for a working pressure of 150 lb. The hind rollers are made with cast-iron bosses, wrought-iron spokes, and patent cast-iron removable rims, and spring scrapers are fitted at back and front.

The boiler of the compound steam tractor is suitable for 200 lb. working pressure. The diameters of the engine cylinders Are 4,1. ins, high pressure and 8 ins.. low pressure, arranged on the side-byside compound principle. The valve mechanism is of the radial gear type.

The road speeds of the tractor are 2i and 5 m.p.h. It is fitted with winding drum and wire rope, and a swivel pulley attached to the tender permits the wire rope to he operated over a considerable arc without changing the position of the vehicle. It should perhaps be mentioned that both the road roller and the steam tractor are fitted with the patent Marshall firebox with cambered crown plate, which dispenses with the usual series of stays and stay bolts.

Oxford Steam Plough Co,

Stands Nos. 1 and 2, Row H.

For over 50 years this company have been extensive owners and users of road rollers, hauling engines, ploughing engines, etc., and during this period they have naturally gained a vast experience in their running and repair. The exhibits will be mainly intended to demon strate how road rollers in.need of repair can be thoroughly modernised and made eqUal in efficiency to new ones.

Amongst other exhibits wilrbe a 10 ton Aveling mid Porter roller over 30 years old, and a Wallis 5 ton tractor which has been converted into a 7. ton steam roller. To those authorities who have tractors surplus to their present. requirements this conversion will be of particular interest. These two engines will also demonstrate the company's Well-known system of 'steel-plating worn roller wheels, whilst both rollers will be fitted with Allen acarifiers.

The company have recently introduced a system of repairing wora link motion by which the holes can he ground and new ground pins fitted, it also being possible to grind up the curvature of the link and supply a new die to fit.

Included amongst the exhibits will be Oxford-pattern gauge glass fittings, blowoff cocks, clack-boxes, steel steerage quadrants, plated roller wheels, axles.

Robey .and Co., Ltd.

Stand No. 6, Row D.

One of the company's well-known 5 ton steam wagons with an end-tipping boriy will be shown. The boiler of this vehicle is of the stayless, locomotive type, the firebox being of the domed type, the elimination Of stays removing the Ha

bility of failure of this important component.

Other exhibits of the company will include a new design of trailer and a compound, tandem steam road roller. The, trailer has an all-steel chassis, and although it is a good, solid engineering job its construction is light. The road roller is specially suitable for modern taimacadam roads. The boiler and engine units are practically the same as used in the Robey steam wagon, which enables production to be standardised. It is made in. two -sizes, 5 tons and 6 tons.

Ruston and Hornsby, Ltd.

Stand No. 2, Row G.

This company have long been connected with the manufaetur‘ of reliable and economical road-making plant, and they will exhibit two of their road rollers. Interest will probably be centred around the new internal-combustion roller which is on exhibition for the first time. This roller is of the usual threewheel type and is fitted with a two-cylinder engine which develops 20 b.h.p. It is designed to run on paraffin. At each end of short shaft taking the drive to the gearbox is a flexible coupling, one of the special features being the provision of a dual clutch operated by one control. The provision of two clutches obviates the necessity for disengaging gears when it is desired to reverse. The weight of the roller when in working condition is just over 8 tons.

The other roller is a 10 ton compound steamer, which, will be fitted with a twotine scarifier. The working pressure of the boiler of this roller is 180 lb. per sq. in. By carrying out simple alterations to the forecarriage of the steam roller; it can be readily converted into a traction engine.

Stevens P.-E. Vehicles, Ltd.

Stand No. 5, Row B, Gilbey Hall.

A 3-4 ton Stevens petrol-electric chassis will be shown by the above company. The chassis is fitted with the Stevens electric transmission, and is particularly suitable for various classes of municipal work. The engine fitted is of the four-cylinder type and conforms to the subsidy type requirements. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 14 ft. It should be mentioned that the electrical equipment is specially adapted for the supplying of electricity 1 or welding purposes an output of 250 amps. at from 80-106 volts being available.

Sentinel Waggon Works, Ltd.

Stands Nos. 11 and 12, Row D.

The Sentinel steam wagon has built up a great reputation amongst haul/ authorities, and three examples' of the company's machines are to be staged, these being a 6-tonner with a platform body, a 5 ton end-tipping wagon, and a 4 ton standard, high-sided wagon. There is no need for us to enter into a description of these vehicles, as their construction is well known. Suffice it to say that the loading space of the 6-tanner is 14 ft. by 7 ft., and that of the 4-tanner 13 ft. by

6 ft., and that the tipping wagon has a capacity of 195 cubic ft.

Chief interest will probably centre around the Sentinel trailer, which made its first appearance at the recent Olympia Show. The load capacity of the trailer is 4 tons, and it is made in two sizes. A great feature of its construction is that the number of parts has been kept down to the minimum. It is built up,by making use of four one-piece pressed steel turntable units, these forming the crossmembers of the frame, the circles upon which the under-carriages can turn, and the under-carriages themselves, both front and rear. The front and back. of the trailer are exact duplicates, and they can be made to change their positions by merely taking out the bolts and perch pin which is located in the centre ofi the front pair of pressings. The brakes fitted to the trailer are of the internal-expanding type. It is fitted with solid rubber tyres of 720 mm. by 140 mm. dimenSions.

Slough Lorries and Components.

Stands Nos. 13-15, Row A, Gilbey Hall Examples of the Peerless 4 ten, chain

driven lorry are to be staged by this concern. These vehicles have been thoroughly reconditioned in the cornpalsy's workshops, and they give a six months guarantee with each vehicle. The price of the standard vehicle, with• ordinary lorry body, is 2350, with hydraulic tipping gear 2553, the hydraulic tipping gear itself being an extra fitting at

Iii some cases it is difficult to secure spare parts and replacements for reconditioned vehicles, especially if they are of foreign manufacture, but we are given to understand that spare parts can readily be obtained for these Peerless lorries.

• Tuke and Bell, 'Ltd.

Stand No. 7, Row A.

This company, who are the sole manufacturers of the Constable tipping wagon, will be showing a trailer with a body of this type to carry a 5 ton load. The Constable tipping body allows of the load being completely discharged to either side in 90 seconds by one man. This trailer

will be fitted with patent automatic doors, which are so arranged that they can be let down for easy loading Of barrels and other bulky stores.

An end-tipping body mounted on a Ford 1 ton chassis will also be shown. This vehicle is intended for the collection of house refuse, and the body has a capacity a 100 cubic ft. The tipping gear, which tips to an angle of 45 degreeaa allows the load to be discharged by one man in 30 seconds without any

portion of the load being lifted. The body will be fitted with sliding metal covers in four sections, which prevent the refuse.being blown into the air. The third exhibit will be an improved road gritting machine, which has a capacity for 2 tons of grit and is suitable for treating slippery roads.

One of the company's latest type 8 ton compound steam road rollers fitted with Van Putten's sprayer will be shown on this company's stand. This roller is fitted with an enclosed-type compound engine, in which the parts run in an oil bath on the splash principle. — A similar type of engine is also employed on the compound tractors fnade by the company, an example of which will be on view. This tractor is mounted on springs front and rear and provides two speeds. A winding drum with a good length of steel wire rope is incorporated, as well as suction hose. This tractor is mounted on rubber tyres, those at the front being 950 mm: by 140 nun-, and at the rear 1,500 mm. by 160 mm.

The special construction of the rear driving wheels should be noted, in which the rims taking the rubber tyres are of cast steel.

Where local authorities find there is not sufficient work for a tractor, or roller to be kept fully employed for the one purpose, either of these machines can be supplied. with fittings enabling it to be used for the combined purposes of rolling. and hauling.

The fact that many hundreds of Yorkshire steam wagons are already in the service of municipalities should be sufficient in itself to call attention to the products of this Leeds company.

The vehicles to be shown will comprise a 4 ton stlitarn wagon fitted with mechanically-operated end-tipping body, and a vacuum gully emptier and sealer. The Yorkshire boiler is of the locomotive type, and is disposed across the front end of the wagon. The vertical engine can neither be classified as an overtype nor an undertype, for it is positioned just inside the driver's cab. The final drive is by single roller chain driving through a totally-enclosed differential gear on a rear axle of the usual steam wagon type.

The tipping gear fitted is of the gravity-assisted, run-back, tip-over type. The gully emptier is built upon a 6 ton chassis. It is fitted with rectangelar steam tank which is divided longitudinally, thus forming two separate tanks, each having a capacity of 910 gallons. A oiecular vacuum chamber capable of holding the contents of six gullies is mounted on the top portion of the tank, to which is attached the 4,1in. flexible suction hose.
