Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We understand your enthusiasm for combining the strengths of PTA and RNA to produce stronger services for industry (CM 1-7 May 1997). Indeed, this has

been the consistent view of FTA's hoard since we first suggested this to the RHA nearly 10 years ago.

I Iowever, your comments about the representational strengths of the FTA and RHA were wrong. FTA members between them operate 200,000 lorries, nearly half of the lorry fleet, and that is a more than adequate "statistical mandate" for FTA to speak on behalf of road freight transport.

David Green Director-general, Freight Transport Association, Tunbridge Wils, Kent.

L not the number of trucks operated that counts as far as CM is concerned. It's the number of individual 0licence holders. Out of 69,000 0-licence holders the trade association has little more than 23,000. And we maintain our position that it's not enough firr an adequate statistical mandate Ed.
