• Ford drivers at the heart of a row over racism are sticking to their decision never to return to the Transport & General Workers Union (CM 8-14 May). This became clear at a Trades Union Congressbrokered meeting called to resolve the issue of whether 300 drivers were right to move from the TGWU to the United Road Transport Union.
The drivers dissolved their TGWU branch in January, unhappy about how a dispute over alleged racism was handled.
Seven black Ford workers claimed that they were not given the opportunity of getting better-paid driving
jobs.
