AN attack on five ton bridges was beaten off during a brisk Commons battle this week. By 224 votes to 144, M.P.s refused to allow Mr. William lamilton (Labour, West Fife) to introduce a Bill to nationalize the bridges without compensation.
It was monstrous, said Mr. Hamilton, that this legalized private pillage of the public by a privileged few should be allowed to continue.
