Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Quikbed servicing outfit for bearings is marketed by Edmunds Walker and Co., Ltd., 6, Newman Street, London, W.1, and is chiefly designed to deal with crankshaft and connectingrod bearings. It mainly comprises a patent reamering tool; complete with cutters. The jigs carrying the mandrel to which is clamped the cutting tool are adjustable for use with any form of crankcase. A jig . with a specially heavy frame is also provided for employment in connection with the C28

centring and reamering of connecting rod bearings. The remainder of the outfit includes locating cones and spanners. Two mandrels are supplied.

Amongst the numerous advantages claimed for the Quikbed appliance is that the adjustable reamering tool allows the bearings to be resurfaced with a fine finis.h and reamered in perfect alignment while in their housings in the crankcase. Bearings for different diameters of journals from 1 15-32 ins. to 3/15ins, can be easily dealt with

by the two standard outfits, whilst reamers of special size can be supplied.

It is stated that the time taken for reamering and bedding-in main bearings by this method is two hours, whilst performing the same operation with connecting-rod bearings occupies about the same time. It will be readily agreed that this should show a great saving in time, and, consequently, in money, compared with the somewhat tedious method of scraping the bearings by hand.
