Nearly £1.3m has been set aside for four road projects in England by the European Regional Development Fund.
This EEC Fund allocates money for a variety of industrial projects in the development regions of EEC member countries.
Almost Elm of the grant is to go towards the Calder Valley route to Burnley in Lancashire, The remainder of the transport content of the grant, just over £300,000, is going to the county of Cleveland.
Over £204,000 will be spent on a by-pass in Stockton-onTees to ease the burden of heavy traffic using a narrow residential road between an industrial centre and a trunk road. The remaining £110,000 is to be used for general road improvements between the north bank of the River Tees and the A19.
