THGovernment last week turned down the idea. of an independent commission to examine passenger rail services in Greater London and the possibilities of expanding those services to relieve congestion on the roads.
"The British Transport Commission has, the statutory duty to provide or secure the provision of an adequate and properly co-ordinated system of passenger transport for the London Passenger Transport Area," said Mr. John Hay, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, when the commission was suggested in the Commons.
