• Companies who hire commercial vehicles could be putting their employees' lives at risk, claims MP Gareth Wardell.
Speaking in the House of Commons last Tuesday he said that more than 80% of tippers and vans hired in a survey in Wales were found to be anroadworthy. Out of 16 CVs, only one was fault-free.
Wardell was introducing his Motor Trade (Consumer Protection) Bill, which aims to protect the public from buying or hiring dangerous vehicles.
But despite support from trading standards offices, local authorities and the Office of Fair Trading, the bill looks unlikely to be passed into law.
