• A scale model of Cleveland County Council's prototype emergency fire tender, designed jointly with Cleveland Fire Brigade and Teesside Polytechnic, is being shown at the London Design Centre until 26 January as part of an exhibition of collaboration between the polytechnic and industry.
The tender uses storage pods mounted on hydraulically operated sliding runners to give extra storage space on smaller-than-usual vehicle chassis.
Cleveland Council holds the patent and design copyright and has so far received a number of bids from manufacturers to produce it under licence.
