CALIFORNIA'S Institute ol Technology, has produced a carbon fibre battery plate which is claimed to weigh only one tenth of a similar sized lead plate and which could lead to greater use of electric vehicles.
Because of its larger surface area, it is more stable and said to almost double battery life The new plate also allows an increase in power of up to foul times that provided by a conventional battery.
But it is unlikely that electric vehicles will gain the performance needed to make them widely acceptable al present.
