• Pickfords hidustnal is planning to close its north of England hub at Birtley, Gateshead, although union claims that the haulier is to make five drivers redundant have been denied by the company. Pickfords says its Glasgow depot will become the new hub and Birtley drivers and g-angmen will move to sister company BRS's depot at Team Valley, Gateshead.
According to the TGWU, four members are taking early retirement and one has volunteered for redundancy out of 19 at Birtley.
