Need to Go Farther With Bricks

WIDER scope for the carriage of VI' bricks was needed to meet the expanding building programme, said Mr. R. Mackenzie, at Glasgow last week, in support of an application by Mr. Peter Goss, Lochend Street, Motherwell. He applied for a variation to cover the transport of road and building materials in the south of Scotland.

He had a licence with a radius of 30 miles but had been asked to undertake work at greater distances. Local brickworks were now having to go outside their immediate area to secure business.

For British Railways, Mr. J. J. Clyde sought to contain the area of operation and Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, granted goods within 30 miles of base, and road and building materials and building plant for Messrs. Alex Findlay, Motherwell, within 40 miles.
