Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SEVERAL of Britain's road transport organisations have got together to urge the Government to make its views 'known on the various Channel tunnel proposals.

Among the bodies that have co-operated in this move are the Road Haulage Association, the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport, the British Road Federation and the RAC.

They have sent a joint letter to Transport Minister Norman Fowler saying that the Channel Tunnel is a "vitally important matter" and that the Government should publish full information.

Single bore One of the main reasons for the letter is the fear in the road transport industry that the British Rail proposal for a single bore rail-only tunnel without a road link could be accepted.

In the letter the organisations say that "Other propo.sals have been put forward recently for a bridge or road/ rail tunnel and these appear to be technically feasible". It concludes: "In these circumstances, it was the unanimous opinion of the transport organisations that there is an urgent need for reappraisal of the alternative proposals.
