c32 Road freight manager of the Ulster Transport Authority since 1955, Mr. Robert L. Streight is to retire on September 30 after 45 years in the industry. Mr. Streight has been largely responsible for the development of articulated transport within the U.T.A. He was chairman of the Northern Ireland section of the Institute of Transport last year.

District traffic superintendent at Derby for the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Mr. R. B. Swindell is retiring on September 30 because of ill-health. Mr. Swindell joined Trent in 1924, was made district traffic superintendent at Nottingham in 1930 and took up his Derby post in 1933.

E. Boydell and Co., Ltd., of Gloucester, manufacturers of Muir-Hill dumpers, loaders and shunters, have appointed Mr. H. F. Mason, as service manager. Mr. Mason recently returned to the U.K. after spending 10 years in Nigeria and the Southern Cameroons as a senior mechanical engineer to the Nigerian Department of Federal Public Works.

Mr. R. T. Knowles, sales director of A.E.C. Vehicles (S.A.), Ltd., has been appointed to a new sales position in Buenos Aires. He will work closely with A.E.C.'s associate company, DIAM di Tella Automotres S.A., in co-ordinating A.E.c.'s sales programme and progressive manufacturing policy. He joined A.E.C. in 1947 and became a director of the African company in 1960.

The British Materials Handling division of Yale and Towne, Staffs, announce the appointment of Dr. R. J. Tonks as chief research and development engineer. Lord Derwent has been appointed Minister of State, Board of Trade; he has resigned his position as chairman of the British Road Federation, a post he had held since 1954.

Having passed retirement age, Mr. E. Coupland, chief engineer of Rubery Owen and Co., Ltd., has been appointed director of engineering sertces of the company. Mr. P. Spear will continue as director of research. Mr. Coupland will also be general manager of the new welding division which will be inaugurated on October 1. Mr. R. S. Pickering will be manager of the new division and Mr. W. A. Tyrell will be the sales manager. Mr. R. T. Bromfield, managing director of Invicta Electrodes, Ltd, will play an active part in the management Of the new division.

Mr. J. T. Leech has been appointed to the board of G.M. Power Plant Co., Ltd., Ipswich. He served 23 years with the Royal Navy and was attached most of the time to the Fleet Air Arm as an engineer officer.
