Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PiURING the past few years 1.-/ important plans have been laid in Spain to prpmote the self-sufficiency of the country. One of the most interesting and far-reaching of these projects relates to the development of the motor industry.

The Institut° Nacional de lndustria has created a special Centre for the Technical Study of Mechanical Traction (Centro cie Estudios Tanicos de Automocion), which has been planning the development of the industry and deciding upon the most suitable types of vehicle for Spain. The work of this body has now begun to take shape with the creation of the National Motor Lorry Undertaking (Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones), as it is considered that the most important step to be taken is the provision of adequate road transport.

The undertaking has acquired the

works of La Hispano Suiza, which are at present being modernized and re-equipped • for the purpose of improving the output of a 7-ton lorry, the production of which is now one per day.

This vehicle is named the Pergaso and is claimed to be entirely Spanish both in design and manufacture. I is equipped with a six-cylinderecl engine, developing a maximum of 100 b.h.p., and is designed TO haul a trailer giving another 7 tons carrying capacity.

An entirely new works is,. however, planned to be put down in Barajas for an annual production of 1,500 oilengined trucks, from 8 to 20 tons capacity, of the most modern type.

The centre is also just completing plans for the production of an agricultural tractor of 40 h.p., powered by a four-eylindered oil engine. Manufacture will be undertaken by existing works, although if the mechanization of Spanish agriculture proceeds at the expected rate, new worlZs will be built.

In view of the importance of hall bearings for the new industry, the Government has also founded the Empresa Nacional de Rodamientos, in collaboration with the Swedish S.K.F. concern.
