SCANIA HAS ADDED two high-torque 13-litre engines to its lighter, compact P-series range of trucks. Previously only available on Scania's larger Gand R-series vehicles, the 360hp and 400hp Euro-5 engines claim to deliver improved fuel economy over its bigger siblings thanks to a lighter chassis and cab.
Both engines use EGA technology, which Scania says "brings the convenience of
riot requiring additives, while leaving enough space on the chassis for a larger fuel tank or other equipment".
For example, the tipper chassis weighs nine tonnes and, coupled with a lightweight aluminium tipper body, Scania says its kerb weight could be 12 tonnes, leaving a 20-tonne payload at 32 tonnes.
The 360hp engine with 1,850Nm of torque sits below the 380hp SCR 12-litre unit in the range, while the 400hp version mirrors the 420hp SCR engine with 2,100Nm of torque.
There's also plenty of choice when it comes to cabs. Fleet buyers can choose between short, day, sleeper, low-entry and crew cabs, with each capable of accommodating a variety of chassis configurations ranging from tippers to emergency vehicles.
