PROTESTS against the lack of adequate bus services in remote rural areas were made at a meeting of the Central Council of the Scottish Women's Rural Institutes in Edinburgh, last week.
Lady Riddell-Webster said they were disappointed by the Ministry of Transport's reply to the resolution passed at the conference last October, urging the provision of smaller buses in sparsely populated areas and suggesting that they might be run without conductors. The Ministry had rejected the suggestion on economic grounds.
