THE Minister of Transport was urged in the House of Commons last week to bring buses registered as private cars to carry workpeople within the regulations governing public service vehicles.

Mr. Ernest Davies (Lab., Enfield East) said that concerns in increasing numbers were registering passenger vehicles with 12 or more seats as private cars to transport employees without charging fares, thereby avoiding .Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and the Conditions of Fitness Regulations. He alleged that some of the vehicles were in poor condition and were a danger.

Mr. G. R. FL Nugent, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, replied that there was no evidence that such vehicles constituted a danger, and there was no power w bring Ulm within the provisions covering public service vehicles. He did not think there was a case for doing so.

INJUNCTION SOUGHT

AN injunction is to be sought by .1.-1 Nelson Corporation against the closure of the Nelson depot, arranged for March 31, of the Burnley, Colne and Nelson transport undertaking until arbitration proceedings are started. The corporation are reported to be strongly opposed to the closure of the depot, where 105 men are employed.

\X1regret to record the deaths of Mn. ‘710HN BROADBENT and MR. JOHN NORTHCOTE.

Mr. Broadbent was the founder of a Stamford Bridge coach concern bearing his name, now taken over, by Derwent Plastics, Ltd.

Mr. Northcote, of Bolt's Tours, Ltd., Walsall, died after a long illness.
