Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The fall in demand for Leyland's own engines has taken its toll of 314 jobs at two of its plants in Lancashire.

At the engine plant at Leyland, 180 of the 1,100 jobs are going and 134 of the 400 jobs in the company's foundry also disappear.

The company blames the engine plant job losses on the inability of such markets as the Middle East to fund the purchase of Leyland-engined trucks, on the falling demand for TL11 engines from Leyland Bus and on the switch to other engines in home market trucks like the Freighter and Roadrunner.

The foundry job losses are also blamed on the impending end of production of 98-Series Roadrunner engines at Bathgate this month and on Jaguar's move away from cast iron blocks made by Leyland to aluminium blocks made elsewhere.
