In 1962 he was elected managing director of the group holding company, Tecalemit Ltd. Mr. T. W. Turner has been appointed resident sales engineer (Scotland) for Dennis Bros. Ltd. of Guildford, Surrey. He took up his appointment last week.

R. A. Armitage has been appointed assistant sales manager of Fletcher Miller Ltd., a member of the Castrol group of companies. E. Cunnah, a director of the Falcon Oil Co., has retired after 42 years' service with the company.

Mr. M. J. Knaggs, chief designer, retired at the end of May from the Skefko Ball Bearing Co. Ltd., of Luton.

Mr. John R. Wall has been appointed operations manager of Midland division of Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd. in succession to Mr. I). E. Varney, who has taken up a similar appointment in the north-eastern division.

The assistant chief engineer of the West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd., whose retirement was announced recently, is Mr. A. R. Felling, arid not as previously published.

Mr. K. Skipp has been appointed regional manager (Southern region) for James Booth Aluminium Ltd., with sates supervisory responsibility for the LondonSouthampton area. Mr. P. Brown has been appointed regional manager (northern region) with equivalent responsibility for the Manchester-NewcastleScotland area. For the third year in succession, Mr. W. J. Duckham (Falmouth) has been elected chairman of the public relations committee of the Road Haulage Association. Mr. J. P. Wells and Mr. E. West were elected vice-chairmen.

Mr. Herbert T. Kerr has been elected to the newly-created office of vice-president and controller of U.S. Industries Inc, Mr. Kerr was formerly treasurer of the corporation, which has two British manufacturing and marketing subsidiaries.

Mr. H. V. Cooper, assistant secretary of Dunlop since 1949, has retired after being with the company for nearly 52 years. He is widely known throughout the rubber industry for his work on licences and patents.

As a result of changes in the postings of under secretaries at the Ministry of Transport, Mr. L. S. Mills has taken charge of the general group of divisions; Mr. P. B. H. Dickinson, the highways and traffic, Northern group; Mr. T. F. Bird, the shipping policy group and Mr. B. E. Bellamy the marine group.

Mr. Frank Nelson has been appointed engine assembly and test superintendent, a newly-created position, for Leyland Motors Ltd. His responsibilities cover the assembly, test1ng and finishing opera-. lions carried out on diesel engines in Leyland's Spurrier works, and supervising the coppersmith's department.

Obituary

wE regret to record the deaths of Mr. T. A. Arrand, Mr. David L. Edward, Mr. Donald D. Hobday and Mr. Leslie A. Potter.

Mr. Arrand, who was 80 years of age, died last week. He was a director GI Arrand and Son (Hauliers) Ltd., of Seotter, Gainsborough, Lines, a business of which he was the founder, Mr. Arrand was one of the motor haulage pioneers, having started in road transport in 1919.

Mr. Edward, of Braeriach, Bieldside, died at the age of 57. He was associated with the haulage firm of Charles Alexander for 20 years. Mr. Edward became the first secretary of Charles Alexander and Partners (Transport) Ltd., formed in 1954, after road transport was denationalized. He was also a director of the firm.

Mr. Hobday was a director of the Pressed Steel Co. and sales director of the motorcar body division. Mr. Hobday, who died after a short illness in the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, was born in 1898 at Great Malvern. He joined the Pressed Steel-Co. in 1928.

Mr. Potter, who was managing director of Raybestos-Belaco Ltd., died suddenly in Paris while on a Continental business visit. He joined the company about 35 years ago and had been managing director for the past four years. He was 54.
