Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Three roaltrains 31 metres long are regularly being run across Russia by Dutch operator Rynart Trading. Director Rinus Rynart believes his company may be the only Western haulier to operate rigs of this size there.

The tractor unit, usually a 400/450hp Scania or Volvo, is coupled to a semi-trailer, linked to another semi-trailer by a con

vertor dolly. The semi-trailers are taken separately across Poland to the Russian border, then linked.

Rynart admits that, even in Russia, his giant combination isn't strictly legal. "The limit is 26 metres, but one and a half trailers isn't much use, so we thought we'd try two and run at 31 metres and see what happened," he explains. "But nobody has made any trouble so far: not even the police. We have considered pulling three trailers, but I think this would probably be too dangerous and the Russians would stop us."

Rynart's loads include machinery, chemicals and food. Based at Klundert, about 50km outside Rotterdam, he runs 30 trucks and trailers and has been operating for 25 years.
