Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I NOTICE with interest, in a recent issue of CM that Volvo have now produced a version of their Citybus with 86 seats and an unladen weight of 9,380kg all be it with aluminium wheels. This gives a specific unladen weight of 109kg per passenger.

Can I draw your attention to the 1958 AEC Bridgemaster which in its 30ft version weighed in at 7,925kg and carried 76 seated passengers. This gives a specific weight of 104kg per passenger.

May I ask what all the bus designers have really been doing over the last 26 years!

Interested — answers awaited. P E BAKER BEng, CEng, MIMechE Grin dleton nr Clitheroe Lancashire
