Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

KENT ENGINEERING, one of the National Bus Company commercial engineering companies formed from the old overhaul works of the East Kent bus fleet, has won the NBC chairman's award for innovation in 1983.

The award was for a simple electronic indicator switch, designed by company electrician Peter Goodall. The switch is both cheaper and more reliable than the vacuum operated devices currently in use.

The new unit has a self cancelling mechanism which can be present to keep the vehicle's indicators flashing for any time between two and 40 seconds. A manual cancel switch is also provided.

The new device has been successfully tested in service with the East Kent bus fleet. With an average life of five years, instead of the current device's two, it could save the National Bus Company operating fleets thousands of pounds.
