Substantial Increases which are Not Viewed with Favour by Taxi-cab Owners, Drivers or the Public.

ACURIOUS state of affairs has arisen in the Paris taxicab world as the result of an order by the municipal council to make a very considerable increase in the legal fares. If this regulation be carried into effect the present charge of 1.25 frs. for engaging a cab will be increased to 2 frs., whilst the 25-centime stages will be raised to 50 ceatimes.

ThZtrastonishing part of the matter is that neither cab owner nor driver desires the increase, whilst the publics the opinion of which has not been asked (as there are no elections due for some years!), most certainly does not want the fares raised.

Here is the secret. Uneconomic working of the municipally owned public-transport services has . necessitated a new-increase in bus and tram fares.
