• The European Commis sion is to help fund a yearlong study into the feasibility of an East Coast motor way from Cambridge to " Newcastle. The EC has pledged £130,000 to add te £290,000 raised by 17 cow cils along the 320km (200mile) route with the backin of 17 companies in the private sector. The study begins in March 1990.
