Mr. J. W. Sutton has been appointed general manager of production of Martin Walter Ltd. at the company's Dormobile Works, Folkestone. Mr. Sutton was apprenticed to the Austin Motor Co. Mr. Robert C. Mitchell has been appointed vice-president and assistant managing director of Chrysler International S.A., the Geneva-based company responsible for the marketing of all Chrysler products outside the United States and Canada. His former position as company secretary is now filled by C. W. Hester, who has been manager of tax affairs since 1959.

Mr. D. J. Warren has been appointed general manager of Spurling Motors (Chiswick) Ltd. He will be responsible for all divisions.

Herr Karl Waldhrunner, Austrian Minister of Transport, is to resign from the post to become Second President of the country's House of Commons. Mr. Michael Matthews has recently been appointed chairman of the board of Silver Knight Lubricants Ltd., of West Bromwich. He retains his managing directorship, an office he has held for the past four years. It is announced also that Mr. Paul Matthews has resigned from the board and has relinquished all connection with Silver Knight Lubricants Ltd.

Mr. Gerald Toll has been appointed manager of the Birmingham bra7ch office and depot, Nechells House, 41 Richard Street, Birmingham 7, of R. and J. Dick Ltd., power transmission equipment manufacturers.

Mr. A. L. Oran, export manager of John Bull Tyre Division, will retire at the end of the year. Mr. Oran joined John Bull in 1935.

Three new directors have been appointed to the board of the Leyland manufacturing company within the Group. They are Mr. T. N. Obituary

NJE regret to record the deaths of VV Mr. W. T. Collyer and Mr. Russell Vardhaugh.

Mr. Collyer, aged 79, of Sutton Coldeld, died last week. He founded in 932, in partnership with Mr. G. J. feritier, Heritier Ltd. In 1936 this firm ecarrie Aeroplane and Motor Al ulinium Castings Ltd. Mr. Collyer was director of Aeroplane and Motor dutninium Castings Ltd. until his retire, lent in 1960.

Following a heart attack. Mr. Vardhaugh died at the age of 50. He lined Small and Parkes Ltd. in 1935 nd became industrial sales specialist and .ublic service vehicle representative in he north east of England. Cheshire Weight Offences ritTRING the year ending Last March, I-, 2,497 vehicles had been stopped in the County of Cheshire and 687 had been weighed, said Mr. John Hay, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, last week. As a result there had been 369 prosecutions and the operators of 410 vehicles had been cautioned. Fines totalling £1,127 had been imposed. In Oldham, went on Mr. Hay, 27 vehicles had been stopped and weighed, of which one was over-weight. No prosecution had been taken.

750 Goads Vehicles Per Day Expected

I T had been estimated that 750 goods vehicles of between two and seven tons unladen weight would use the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry every day during the first year of operation, said Mr. Marples last week. Figures produced by the Tamar Bridge Joint Committee showed that this daily traffic was expected to rise to 870 in the fifth year, and 1,050 in the tenth year, added the Minister.

For heavy goods the estimates were 70, 80 and 100 and for cars and light goods vehicles 3,040, 4,000 and 5,600.

January 1 is Vesting Day for State Boards THE Minister of Transport has made an Order (The Transport Act, 1962 (Vesting Date) Order, 1962) under Section 31(1) of the Transport Act, appointing January 1, 1963, as the vesting date for the purposes of the Act. On that date the property, rights and liabilities of the British Transport Commission will vest in the British Railways Board, the London Transport Board, the British Transport Docks Board, the British Waterways Board and the Transport Holding Company in accordance with the provisions of Part II of the Act which divide the undertaking of the Commission between those bodies.
