GLASGOW TRANSPORT HAS ITS BEST-YEAR THE fact that the year to May 31 last proved to be the best ever enjoyed by Glasgow municipal transport is emphasized in the department's annual report. Total receipts exceeded 4,250,000, and the balance, after meeting all obligations, was £268,532, tint of which' £,50,000 is to be contributed to the Common Good Fund, and the remainder applied to the reduction of the outstanding deficit in the net revenue account of the department. Working expenses were higher by £395,214, largely on account of increased wages.

NOTESON GOVERNMENT ROAD • HAULAGE SCHEME

Supplied by the Ministry of War Transport and the Hauliers' National Traffic Pool, to keep the industry informed of developments, but not necessarily to be regarded as official pronouncements STANDARD FORMK.—Attention was called a fortnight ago to the proposal of the Ministry to issue `standard forms

of invoice. Supplies of the invoices have now been forwarded to all Area Road Haulage Offices, and will be Issued, free of charge, to operators carrying traffic on behalf of the Minister.

MR. TAPP.—Mr. P. J. R. Tapp has resumed his work at the Ministry after his convalescence. He acts as advisor to the Ministry on the operation of the Government Road Haulage Scheme.

TRAFFIC.—The general cargo moved by the Chartered Fleet and members of the Pool in the week ended July 24 amounted to 160,800 tons. In the previous week the total was 148,900 tons.

DEFENCE LINES STRENGTHENED.— The number of vehicles enrolled in the week ended July 25 was 696, of which the North Midland and Northern Regions each contributed 150 and the North Western 137. These additions bring the total to 38,622, but many more vehicles are required.
