Limitations on the Use of Alternative Fuels
QPERATORS of vehicles running on alternative • fuels must remember that no vehicle, whatever fuel be used, will be permitted to be employed for purpoies which would not justify an issue of motor spirit or oil fuel.
An Order, under the Defence Regulations, relating to vehicles operating on alternative fuels prohibits such running from September 1, except under licence, which must be obtained from the Regional Transport Commissioners, and will be issued only on conditions that the vehicles concerned are engaged on essential work and that the fuel is available. Where such vehicles are actually being operated on such fuels, applications for licences should p.ce made immediately. Those

who intend to convert their vehicles for the use of alternative fuels must first obtain a licence from an RI' .C.
A second Order which, at the moment of writing, has not been issued, will bring into action a rationing scheme for alternative fuels.
Subject to limitations of supply, the Government wishes to secure as many conversions as possible in the case of those •vehicles performing essential duties, but in no instance will they be permitted to use propane or butane.
