Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Peter Lamer has been beavering away at an truly green trailer with Heil.

And, by Jove, he thinks he has it...

Next week sees the culmination of an interesting project when SucklingTransport will have a new truck on show at the Federation of Petrole urn Suppliers Exhibition at Telford.

It's been interesting because! believe that this petroleum tanker vehicle will push back the boundaties of sustainability and energy efficiency in a very simple way. It will be the first such vehicle capable of carrying 43,000 litres of petrol; around 1,500 litres more than a typical vehicle operating today.

The weight saving produced by Dal's FTP CF85 tractor unit, with the newly designed Heil Evolution trailer produces a significant payload gain in the hulk fuel distribution sector. On major oil company and supermarket fuel distribution operations, where each vehicle makes around 30 deliveries every week, this effectively generates one free delivery a week.

The project is a natural extension of the numerous initiatives we have introduced in respect of the environment and sustainability. A 3.6% reduction in journeys made for the same quantity of product delivered clearly produces a commensurate reduction in CO., and other pollutant emissions, And, unlike many other environmental initiatives, that saving is clearly identifiable. As someone who is passionate about these issues, it never ceases to amaze me how some environmental initiatives take one step forward and one step back.As a fleet operator,it is clear to me that with the introduction of Euro-2 and Euro-3 engines, we have seen a significant increase in fuel consumption by those engines, and I fear the same will happen with Euro-4 engines. I am more convinced by initiatives that take us steadily, but unmistakably, forward.

The combined weight-saving measures introduced on the Daf tractor and the Heil trailer produces a payload of just under 32,000kgs — that's around one tonne better than the current vehicles in our fleet.

And the record payload has not been achieved at the expense of a sleeper cab either. One of the targets we set the project team was to create a vehicle that still had a good residual value after three to five years.

The vehicle, registration EU05AFE, will operate on our TankShare spot hire service, out of our West Thurrock depot next month (May). It can be seen on stands 107-108 at the FPS Exhibition, which is being held at the International Centre in Telford on 20 and 21 April.

Suckling Transport will be promoting its award-winning TankShare spot hire tanker haulage service on Stand 114. •
