MOTORWAY cafes are improving — but they are still not good, that is the verdict of the latest report from the Egon Ronay Organisation.

A spokesman told CM this week: "There has been a substantial improvement, but we thought there would have been a greater improvement triggered off by the Government inquiry into standards."

But even so the only cafe in Britain to get an accolade from the Egon Ronay inspectors was the Alan Pond motorway stop on M8 at Hardhill, Scotland.

"This was the only one regarded as good," said the spokesman. "The fish and chips was good and so was the apple pie — very fresh," he added.
