Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

May I congratulate Steve Geary on his excellent article "Owner drivers are banding together" (CM March 17).

This showed clearly how owner drivers can survive in the industry and, to quote the Hawk's comments (CM March 10), -it looks very much like the (John) Wells Report coming to life outside the RHA''.

Turning now to the article -The RHA comes out of its corner(CM March 17), which only described in detail what a weak organisation it is. It must be remembered that it is they who are partly responsible for the state that the industry is in, and it is clear that the leading members are only concerned for themselves.

Any owner-driver who is a member of the RHA should immediately check on the benefits and, at the same time, consider that it is the clearing house and large operator members who are exploiting him in every way possible.

When he has done this he will come to the conclusion that he will be better represented by his local owner-driver association. Then, if he is anything of a businessman, he will immediately join forces with them.

These local owner-drivers' associations are gradually being formed in all parts of the country. In due course they to be represented by a natio organisation which will be known as the British Association of Owner Driver and will bring the owner-dri into the position of leader or industry.

Contrary to what the RH) leaders assume, the local associations attract all own( drivers, whether they are ambitious or not, as they all know that it is the only way they are going to survive in future.

.1 am pleased to announc the formation of two new lo owner-drivers' associations The first is for those in the Middlesex, Surrey, Berkshi! and Buckinghamshire area( and further information can obtained from me on Eghar 5402.

should contact Norman Mu on 060 76 4003, or Fraser Yorke on 0455 612177, v% will be pleased to give furtldetails.

There are more in the

-pipelineand in due cour they will make up a nations

network, which will becom. most efficient haulage con( in the country. This will giv customers a service which the owner-driver can give, each one will remain as he now, an independent opera MIKE WELLS, Egham, Surrey.
