DIRECT fish transport from Scotland to Italy is being pioneered by two Aberdeen concerns, Charles Alexander and Partners (Transport), Ltd., and Allan and Dey, Ltd., wholesale fish merchants and exporters. The first cargo of fish, in a specially refrigerated container capable of holding 1,500 stones, arrived in Milan at the end of last week. It had been hauled by an articulated outfit on the 1,250-mile road journey.

Mr. Jack Forbes, a director of Alexander and Partners, was co-driver when the outfit set off from Aberdeen for Tilbury. After crossing by ferry to Antwerp, the route was through France and Switzerland to Milan. The experiment aims at overcoming the high cost of rail transport both in this country and on the Continent, and at reducing handling to a minimum.
