Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AREVIEleV of the new productions from the works of British commercial vehiele builders since the commencement of this year reveals some moat surprising facts. Nearly 40 makers have added their quota to the long list, which, we think, will prove of considerable interest.

Advance 6-ton steam roller :—This is a machine which certainly bears out its name. Its front roller Can swivel laterally or be fixed, whilst its rear rollers are mounted on a flexible axle.

Makers :—Wallis and Steevens, Ltd.

2-ton A.E.C. chassis :—The particular feature of this • is simplification to enable economical production; lanai drive is by overhead •worm. A.E.C. tractor-lorry :—This is built to carry 8 tons at 12 m.p.h., or 10-12 tons at 8 m.p.h. The turn • table is sprung on the central axle, and the rear of the tractor suspended from it. A.E.C. type N.S. bus:—This is well known for its low centre of gravity, sloping transmission, and final drive by internal gears. Makers :—Associated Equipment Co. Ltd. Albion '24 lip. passenger chassis:—These are intended particularly for use on pneumatic tyres, and have a new ',ewer unit. 32 h.p. Albion passenger chassis :—This is the Mark II model for bus work on solid or pneumatio tyres, and has worm drive.

.Albion 30-cwt. subsidy model:—Most of the Albion features which have proved so successful in the past are contained in this chassis..

Makers :—Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd. 10-12-ton Allchin tractor-lorry :--A particular feature of this steam machine is that the trailer carries jacks so that the trailer can stand alone.

Makers :—W. Allchin, Ltd. 6-ton Atkinson wagon :--This new steamer" is notable for its two-speed epicyclic gear. Atkinson 12-ton tractor-lorry :—This has a Uniflow engine with a ball and inverted phosphor-bronze cup instead of a turntable.

3-ton Atkinson steam wagon :—This resembles the 6-tonner, but is suitably strengthened. Makers :—Atkinson and Co.

30-cwt. Beardmore chassis:—Appearing for the first time at the Scottish Show, this incorporates the taxicab engine and gearbox and worm drive. Makers: W. Beardmore and Co., Ltd.

2-ton Bristol chassis:—This is one of the few forward-dash-type vehicles. It has proved particularly economical in use, and is mutable for both goods and passenger work. Makers :—Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co., Ltd.

30-40-cwt. Clement-Talbot subsidy rorry:—A most. striking vehicle, well received by the War Department, with double-reduction-drive.

Makers :—Clement-Talbot, Ltd.

Commer Car 3G. 4-ton type :—This resembles the 3P. model, but has a new axle and is built for carrying goods.

Makers:—Commereial Cars, Ltd.

30-cwt. Crossley subsidy chassis :—A well-built development from the famous R.F.C. tender, with an overhead worm drive.

Makers :—Crossley Motors, Ltd_ 20-cwt. Dennis :—May be considered as a reply to the imported light van. It. has a four-cylindered engine, Unit-constructed with clutch and gearbox, overhead worm drive and solid-tyred disc wheels, Makers:—Dennis Bros., Ltd.

12-ton Foclen tractor-lorry:—The chief features of this vehicle are the inner and outer bowl connection and hand-wheel steering for the trailer, wheels. Makers :—Fodens, Ltd.

16-seater Guy runabout :—A most interesting passenger-carrying vehicle especially built for publist -service on the Bournemouth sea-front.

Makers :—Guy Motors, Ltd.

31J-cwt: Karrier subsidy model :—This is built to conform with the War Office specification, and has overhead worm drive and aluminium alloy wheels.

25-cwt. Karrier :—A chassis built to meet the demand for a high-class vehicle at a moderate price. It was described in our issue dated November 6th.

Makers :—Karrier Motors, Ltd 30-cwt. Leyland chassis :—The chief point of interest in this is its remarkable engine, embodying features tested in the Leyland Eight car Makers :—Leyland Motors, Ltd.

6-ton Mann steam wagon :—The difference between this and former models is the positioning of the water tanks at the sides, allowing more body space. It also has a more powerful engine. Makers :—Mann's Patent Steam Cart and Wagon Co., Ltd 6-ton Rbbey steam wagon:—One of the few steam wagons geared for three speeds. It has a larger engine and boiler than its prototype. Makers :—Robey and Co., Ltd.

19-ton Scammell tipping wagon :—This is, we believe, the first-tractor-lorry the body of which can tip 12-ton loads. Incidentally, the vehicle is fitted with a new pressed-steel turntable. Makers:—Scarnmell Lorries. Ltd.

20-25-cwt. Star van :—A light vehicle on pneumatic tyres, closely resembling the 30-40-cwt. and 22-3-ton models, and with overhead worm drive.

Makers :—The Star Engineering Co., Ltd. 7-ton Super-Sentinel :—The new wagon can handle loads of from 4 tons to 12 tons. It is of most upto-date design, and has a curious boiler with steeply inclined tubes.

Super-Sentinel tractor-lorry :—This is in production, and one of its leading features will be the new method of brake application. Makers :—Sentinel Waggon Works (1920,) Ltd. 2-ton S.D. freighter :—Extreme novelty is shown in the design of this machine, the low load line of which renders it particularly , useful for refuse collection. It has epicyclic gearing. Makers :-LShelvoke and Drewry, Ltd.

2-ton Stevens petrol-electric chassis :—This is a combination of the well-known B.T.-type Thornycroft with the Stevens electric transmission.

Makers :—Stevens Petrol Electric Vehicles, Ltd.

12-ton Thornycroft tractor-lorry :—The connection is a large steel ball in a socket. A feature issthe provision of hydraulically operated trailer brakes. Thornycroft B.B.4-type engine :—This is a large edition of the successful A.B. type used in the 2i-ton chassis, and it has a remarkable Dower curve. Makers I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd. 20-25-cwt. Vulcan :—A worm-driven model built especially for pneumatic-type equipment, and to meet the call for vehicles to carry light loads_ Makers :—Vulcan Motor and Engineering Co., Ltd.

15-ton :Yorkshire steam tractor:—This closely follows the design of the shaft-driven wagon, except that the gear ratios have been modified and large rear wheels fitted.

Yorkshire 10-12-ton tractor-lorry :—Here, also, the shaft-driven wagon is employed. Makers :—Yorkshire Patent Steam Wagon Co.
