Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers are about to challenge the Government's punishing levels of Vehicle Excise Duty in the High Court.

Next week Cheshire-based lawyer Milton Firman will argue before a High Court judge that UK levels of VED are "grossly unfair" and that operators "are not on a level playing field". If he gets through this first stage in the legal process, Firman claims that "we will be well on the road to victory".

He has the support of 30 hauliers, and is appealing for

firms across the UK to call him in order to lend more weight to the appeal.

'This government can put up with demonstrations, but where it comes unstuck is when a judge makes judicial comment," he adds. "This might force a voluntary review by the Government—that's the only way this matter will be resolved. I'm going to include fuel as well, but my primary concern is VED as this is unique to the industry."
