• Fifty new Volvo FM12 tractors are taking to the road with Freightliner in the first phase of an £8m deal.
The intermodal transport specialist explains that it is investing in the tractors to handle rising demand for inland distribution work.
The 380hp 6x2 tractors are fitted with nine-speed range. change boxes. They will be based at Freightliner depots in Leeds, Birmingham, Felixstowe and Southampton.
The new units are the first Volvos in the Freightliner fleet, which includes 180 tractors and 512 trailers.
Each tractor, supplied by The Crossroads Group in Yorkshire, is fitted with Volvo's new electronic information system to help Freightliner reach performance targets.
