Ron Harries, operating director of the Devon General bus company has retired after 39 years in public transport. Harries entered the bus industry ir 1950 when he joined Bristol Omnibus as a trainee.

After holding various traffic posts in Bristol, Swindon and Bath, he became assistant traffic manager of Western National in 1970 and operating manager of Devon General in 1983. Three years later he was involved in the management buyout of Devon General and became operating director.
