Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Derby Corporation's Latest Guy Trolley-buses.

Further to a paragraph appearing in a recent issue, intimating that Derby Corporation was about to buy 12 additional trolley-buses from Guy Motors, Ltd., we learn that, as in the case of the 20 trolley-buses of this make previously placed in service, they will be equipped with the Westinghouse air brake, the product of the Westinghouse Brake and Sexby Signal Co., Ltd., 82, York Road, London, N.1. The new chassis will be equipped with the Guy patent compound-wound regenerative motor, which has met with much success on the company's trolley-buses already in operation.

Transport Jobs by Rota,.

St. Helens Corporation's cleansing committee has adopted a rota system for the allocation of work to haulage contractors who are ratepayers. The following three principles are, being observed :—(1) The present waiting list of contractors will be added to the working list ; (2) all transport to be hired in rotation ; (3) vehicle owners not to be given any further work after carrying out contracts to the value of £25 to 130 until their turn is reached again.

It appears that, in the past, the cleansing committee had a short list, so as to make it worth while for wagon owners to tender for work, and this led to objection on the part of those left out, because, as ratepayers, they were, in their opinion, not receiving fair treatment. The working list was originally limited to 20 vehicle owners, but now about 40 are included.

Transport Courses at Birmingham, Birmingham Education Committee is running a series of transport courses at the City of Birmingham Commercial College, and lectures are being given on the organization and operation of roadvehicle fleets, the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and transport finance and accounts. Schemes to Reduce Manchester's Congestion.

The fifth report of Manchester Corporation's traffic congestion special committee states that consideration has been given to traffic problems in the central area of the city, and in Swan Street and Miller Street. It is recommended that, in the former case, certain thoroughfares should be converted into one-way streets. In the latter instance it is recommended that the tramways route in Miller Street be abandoned, that Swan Street and Miller Street be converted into one-way streets, and that certain tramcars be diverted Into other thoroughfares.

Expenditure on traffic signs is estimated at £2,500 in the central area, and £560 in respect of the Swan Street and Miller Street proposals. The diversion of trams will involve an estimated expenditure of £560, whilst the abandonment of the Miller Street tramways will cost 1500, making a total of £4,120.
