Important Appeals that are to be Heard This Week

kl PPOSITION is being shown by

private bus companies and other interested parties in Glasgow to the proposals of the Glasgow transport committee to run buses along certain routes in the parishes of Cathcart, Eastwood, and Mearns.

Objections to the application of the corporation have been lodged by the Glasgow General Omnibus and Motor Services, Ltd., the Midland Bus Services, Ltd., Scottish General Transport Co., Ltd., Scottish Commercial Motor Users' Association, the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co., and private individuals. All parties will be heard at an inquiry which is to be held in the City Chambers, Glasgow, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.

The Lanarkshire Tramways Co. also is to appeal against the refusal of the corporation to grant licences to ply for hire with 20 buses in ,connection with the company's Newmains-Cambuslang service. A third appeal is by the Lanarkshire Tramways Co. against the decision of the licensing committee of the county and the burghs of Motherwell, Wishaw and Hamilton to grant 27 licences for buses to ply for hire, and not 33, the number asked for by the company.

There are also other appeals of the Lanarkshire Tramways Co. against certain decisions of the licensing committee mentioned with respect to the licensing of buses of the Glasgow General Omnibus and Motor Services, Ltd., and W. and R. Torrance, Ltd.

Considerable interest centres around the inquiries, the outcome of which will have an important bearing on the whole Glasgow situation.
