• Iveco plans to launch a vehicle electronics diagnostic device for 600 of its European dealers during 1992.
The system is similar to Daf's DAVIE (Daf Vehicle Investigation Equipment) portable, diagnostic computer for the 95 Series range.
The launch will coincide with the phased introduction of lyeco's new light, medium and heavyweight ranges, which are expected to contain many more onboard electronic monitoring systems than existing models.
Iveco's buses and coaches are also expected to benefit from the company's new faultfinding technology.
Called simply the Nem Diagnostic System, the prototype is based on a personal computer which is connected to smaller, hand-held keyboard/display units.
Each works on a separate area of the vehicle, such as the engine, brakes and electrics. Faults can be traced and repairs are suggested by the computer's memory.
A vehicle's complete health history can be stored and recalled at a later date.
lveco intends to link the system to other workshop computers controlling repair schedules and spare parts reordering. It will also incorporate a workshop planner which will suggest the most efficient use of workshop time.
