Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN a new design of side ring for wheels having detachable rims the Goodyear company of Ametica provides a wider rim base and both the beads of the tyre are able to rest on tapered seats.

This, it is claimed, reduces chafing and the' possibility of bead failure. The rim width is increased so that, in total, it is about 70 per cent, of the sectional diameter of the tyre. It is acknowledged that narrow rim width causes the side walls of a tyre to flex unduly, which, of cosine, meansthe generation of heat. In view of this the new Goodyear rim is responsible for extending the life of synthetic rubber tyres, which are in dined to heat up to a greater extent than are those made of rubber.

Rolling deflection is claimed to be reduced by 12i per cent., whilst increased stability and reduced sway ate other advantages attendant upon the use of the new-type side ring.

The accompanying illustration shows clearly how the new ring is fitted and how the wider rim base is thereby. obtained. With demountable rims of any make having mounting bevels at 28 degrees, they can be replaced with these new-type base rims.

Where disc wheels are used these same Goodyear wide-base' rims are available.
