KARRIER MOTORS have confirmed that production of the Dodge Spacevan PB light van will end early in 1982, since it no longer achieves "an acceptable level of sales". No plans for the introduction of a replacement have been announced, but the company says Future manufacturing plans are still being worked out.
Two hundred and eighty-five employees at the Luton and Dunstable plants will lose their jobs as a result of the model's demise, though many of those currently employed on light van manufacturing will be redeployed on Dodge 50 and 100-Series production. The redundancies are expected to take place in two stages on December 4,1981 and then February, 1982.
Karrier's first new product launch, a medium-weight Dodge Commando, is scheduled to take place before the end of this year. The vehicle is already being produced at Dunstable.
Karrier Motors were established in April this year and are owned jointly by Renault Vehicules lndustriels and Peugeot SA.
