OVER 200 companies have expressed interest in the RTITB young driver training scheme and 16 companies have paid their fees and registered for participation in the scheme.

Draft regulations concerning the scheme were circulated for comment by the DoE early in August (CM August 8) and final regulations are awaited. These are expected shortly and it is hoped that the scheme can begin on October 1.

Mr E. L. Williams, director of Williams Bros, Queensferry, and chairman of the Road Haulage Association education and training committee, told CM this week that the scheme was apposite to the Government's thinking about using long-term training methods to combat the rising unemployment a young people.
