Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ryland Pumps Ltd, of Bridgewater Road, Altrincham, Cheshire, has launched a range of Canadian-built position-displacement-gear pumps which are suitable for a whole range of road tanker and terminal installation applications. The new pumps offered are the Vicon range of pumps manufactured by the long-established Viking Pump Company of Canada Ltd.

The models are noted for their simplicity and sturdiness. Sizes range from 1.4-in. to 6in. with capacities from 32 to 780ga1 per min at 200 psi.

Heavy-duty versions can provide suction lifts up to 25ft and applications are available to deal with temperatures ranging from liquid gases at — 120 deg F to heated materials up to 800 deg F. Pumps dealing with hot materials, such as asphalt, use an integral steam jacket. Where a remote shut-off is needed, say, when delivering domestic fuels, a relief valve on the pump head is available.

Two light pumps, series 120 and 130, are aimed specifically at on-vehicle applications and are ideal for fuel-oil deliveries. A 2in. 130 series pump will deliver up to 105gal per min.

Viking, which holds the major share of all pump sales in Canada, is confident it can sell competitively here as there is no tariff barrier to Canadian goods entering Britain at the moment.
