THE rates committee of the Metro' politan and South-eastern Area of the Road Haulage Association has recommended the following rates to members, as guides when tendering to the General Post Office for Christmas traffic in the London postal region:—
The minimum daily .hiring period is hours, except for Sundays and Christmas Day, when it is 5 hours. An extra 4d. per hour is to be charged for work between 9 p.m. and 6a.m. Extra wages paid for work on Bank Holidays, Sundays, etc., are to be additional charges.

THE anniversary luncheon of the Institute of Transport will be held on November 14 at the Connaught Rooms, London, W.C.2. Vice-Admiral Mountbattenwill propose the toast. of the Institute and Lord Brabazon will respond.

PROPOSED cuts in Sunday services by Birmingham Transport Depar:rnent have caused resentment among the platform staff and a decision to carry no standing passengers ()Ft Sundays. The men consider that a heavy burden will be placsd on those crews who work on Sundaysand that men who do not will have no chance to augment their incomes.
