American, French and Italian Makers Represented by About 40 Makes of Vehicles.

IN THE pages which follow we give brief details of the vehicle exhibits which fall into the category of foreign manufacture, the exhibits cr! British makers being described on pages 258 to 268 inclusive. As might be expected, amongst these foreign makes American vehicles will predominate, although French and Italian makers will be represented. The former will be. represented by Berliet, Brasief, De Dion, Delaunay-Belleville, Panhard and Levassor, Ilenaulti Saumr, Unic, and Villa, and the latter by the Fiat exhibits. It might be pointed out that certain vehicles of American origin are assembled in this country of components made abroad.

Ancona Motor Co., Ltd., .

78-82, Brompton Road, S.W. Agents for the G.M.C. Chassis and • the British-Wallis Tractor. Stand No. 50.

An example if the G.M.C. model 16 one ton chassis will be shown on this stand, together with a British-Wallis tractor, which is now manufactured at the Lincoln works • of Rurston and Hornsby, Ltd.

The lorry chassis is a very popular type with British users. It incorporates an engine of the four-cylindered Contimental type, which has a bore and stroke of 3i ins. by 5 ins. respectively. All the valves are on one side and are totally enclosed. The water pump is of the centrifugal type, and is driven by the same shaft that drives the magneto. Lubrication is a combination of forced feed and splash systems. The drive from the engine is taken through a multipledisc clutch. The gearbox provides three forward speeds; and a reverse, and is of compact and strong .construction. Changespeed and brake levers are mounted direct on the box. The engine and gearbox Unit hags three-point suspension, the front end being mounted on a trunnion bearing. The final drive is by bevel gearing, the differential also being of the bevel type. The axle is of the three-quarter floating type. Both brakes act on the same drums.

The engine of the Thitish-Wallis tractor is of the four-eylindered valve-inhead type, with the cylinders cast en bloc, and has been specially designed for using paraffin. One of the features to observe on this engine is the fact that each cylinder is detachable, which allows a large water space round each of them, an essential feature for engines running on paraffin. The cylinder head is detachable. The bore and stroke of the cylinders are 44 ins, by si ins, respectively; the engine develops 28 b.h.p. at 875 r.p.m. • The lubrication system is by patented " Sudclo " • pump, driven by large gearwheels on the camshaft. The clutch consists of three metal discs, separated by two Ferodo-lined aiscs. The gearbox provides two speeds forward and it reverse. The back axle is a complete and independent unit, made up of two heavy castings with two extension arms carrying the axle shafts and brakeoperating gear. The brakes on the rear wheels are of the internal-expanding type, whilst a second brake is fitted to the countershaft.

The wheelbase of the tractor is 7 ft., the tread 4 ft. 1 in., andSits turning radius 10 ft. The drawbar pull is 2,600 lb. at 21 m.p.h.

Agents for the Baico-Ford Conversion Unit. Stand No. 82

A claim is made for the Bake attachment that it is Qapable of converting a Ford chassis to tarry a larger capacity than any other vehicle for its horsepower and weight. This statement is borne out by consideration of the following facts :—The Ford van carries about 7 cwt., the Ford worm-driven .model a ton, whit the Ford chassis converted by nieans of the Balm unit is said to be capable .of carrying 'between 25 to 30 cwt. It also trebles the body space be

hind the driver's cab, which to the average user of a light vehicle is an important factor. Two cpnverted vehicles will be shown, one of these being a 20seater lorry char-a-hande. The Bale° conversion unit does not merely strengthen any one portion of the Ford chassis, hut provides a complete new uuderframe for all that portion of the chassis which carries the load, the heavy 2i in. solid steel rear axle being specially constructed to take the weight. The driving shafts . of the original Ford axle are used for driving the chain sprockets, the axle itself being held securely to the frame by stout brackets.
